| THE BENCH RACK SYSTEM As with bake ovens there are many car bench rig machines on the market and they all do the exact same thing. That is, to pull out a damaged car to the same specification as laid down by the manufactures design. The many and varied car rigs all have their good points and the one I would choose is not necessarily the one some other repairer would choose. Some are static and built into the floor and some are mobile so they can be wheeled around the shop floor, maximizing floor space. |

The top bench assembly at the right is the heart of the unit. It is attached to the top of the scissor type lift and the bench can then be raised or lowered hydraulically. The unit is basically a platform for the damaged car to sit on and then clamped into position. The bench unit has four vertical arms protruding upwards and this is where the car sits and is clamped to the under part of the car's sill panels. This concept has one big advantage in that it can be raised or lowered hydraulically making It very easy for the operator to work on at a comfortable level |

| The vertical pulling beam is mounted and secured at the front of the bench and as can
be seen from the photo below, it can be rotated to any radius. There is a more detailed photo of the beams mechanism at the lower right. The pulling beam can also be pushed backwards or forwards by the hydraulic ram. |

One of many varying pulling attachments is bolted to the car, a chain is passed through
this and back round the pulling beam. The hydraulic ram is operated pushing the beam forward away from the car and in turn pulling the damaged area with it. Because the car is anchored to the bench, only the area that is pulled will move. Multiple pulls can be executed at the same time, not only forward but sidways too, if the front of the car has been pushed over in the accident. |
| This is
the more detailed photo of the pulling beam mechanisim at right. The whole unit is attached to the front of the bench and is raised and lowered with it. The cylindrical hydraulic ram pushes the beam outwards. The beam itself can be swiveled to the left and right and the assembly can also swivel on the mounting plate with all the holes it. The wheels attached make it easy to roll the whole unit away when the rig is not in use. |

| This bench jig comes with an optional measuring system and this can be seen in the
photo attached to the top of the blue bench running the whole length down it.
The eight small vertical stalks have spikes on the end of them so measuring can be
very precise for any given point along the underbody, always using factory specifications. The two photos above are detailed views of same. 90% of cars that require pulling on the rig are realitivley simple jobs and the other 10% require a tradesman who is experienced in both chassis straightening and panel beating, for a badly damaged car that has been rolled with roof, frontal, and rear damage having the best equipment in the world is no substitute for experience. |
