MESSAGE OF WELCOME

Dear Rotary Colleagues and Friends,

Rosemary and I, together with our very hardworking home club, Dunedin Central, extend to you a warm invitation to our District Conference in 2002.

We shall provide a great venue, interesting speakers and a programme to suit all tastes but we need you; Your smile, your laughter, your enthusiasm. Your stories and ideas and your contribution to debate. And, of course, your willingness for service which is what makes our organisation so special.

Plan to come and celebrate a great year of Rotary service in style.

Kind regards and best wishes,

Andrew Meek
Governor 2OO1-2OO2

OURS TODAY... THEIRS TOMORROW

The theme of Ours Today, Theirs Tomorrow is intended to convey the idea that what we have and enjoy today is entrusted to us for a short time only and is then passed on to the next generation. This includes the natural world of course but also our heritage, our stories and our values. We also have a responsibility to ensure that the next generation is as prepared as possible to take over from us. A good education, healthy lifestyle, positive self-esteem and freedom from abuse will help to ensure that mankind, and the life on this precious 'blue dot' we call home, will continue and flourish.

There are echoes of this in Rotary International Richard King's theme for 2001/2002: Mankind is our Business.

While we are planning for a stimulating and challenging conference remember that our District Rotary Conference is also about fellowship and fun. Take a weekend off from the normal and join us for a weekend to remember!

DUNEDIN, 31 MAY - 2 JUNE 2002Birdseye view of Dunedin's centre - the Octagon

The choice of Queen's Birthday weekend to hold our conference means that you don't have to leave before you have seen this fascinating part of our country.

Dunedin is a city which rewards those who stop and take the time to have a look. You will be surprised and entertained by the attractions that are available to you on Sunday afternoon and Monday of Queen's Birthday weekend.

Don't leave before you have seen Dunedin.

Conference venuesTHE VENUE

St. Davids is a modern theatre complex near the heart of the University. Situated beside the Water of Leith and looking out at the historic Clock Tower and the surrounding lawns and trees, it is a beautiful setting for a conference. In addition it will give us all the opportunity to experience the educational environment being provided for our young people and the exciting research that the University provides through it's various facilities.

The Saturday evening function is to be held in the Meridian Mall and those who are familiar with this interesting place will know that this night is going to be different!

Ours today, Theirs Tomorrow promises to be an exciting and enjoyable conference so mark your calendars - Dunedin, 31st May to 2nd June 2002
