Heritage Day One

Friday 14 
1.00pm - 3.00pm Kids Asphalt Art Competition  Outside The Warehouse - great prizes for the most creative. 
9.00pm Celebrations Grand Opening - Dunedin Sinfonia with guest artist- Alexa Still  Oamaru Opera House. Great evening for the entire family. Featuring especially for the children - Mozart's famous Toy Symphony - tickets available at the Brydone Hotel. 
10.15pm Moonlight Promenade  Oamaru's historic precinct by the moonlight. Join in directly from the Opera house steps - tickets available - Brydone Hotel and Oamaru Visitor Information Centre. 
11.00pm Harbour Flare-up  Forget fireworks, here's the real thing! Real flares to light up the night sky and herald in the beginning of the Celebrations. A must for the kids.

Heritage Day Two

Saturday 15 
11.00am Heritage Cricket Players Eleven  King George Park. Combined Waitaki District team pitch against an invitation NZ Cricket Team. Entertainment, barbecues and great spot prizes. 
1.00pm Heritage Treasure Hunt  During the cricket at King George Park- great prizes for the kids. 
3.00pm Soapbox Speedsters  Lower end of Tyne Street hill. All age groups welcome. Entry forms from the Visitor Information Centre. 
  That Dam Run  All day - Kurow. One of New Zealand's greatest running events. 
7.30pm till late Kiwiana Beer Hall  Music, laughs and good ales - more fun than a weta in your swani - get on down to the totally kiwi-fied 'Flight 33' night club 
8.00pm An Irish Extravaganza  An evening with 'Shiner' great Irish music, Irish beers, & giveaways Annie Flanagan's Irish bar.

11.00am RSA Remembrance Service  RSA Garden of Memories - A special service held to remember our friends and family. 
11.45am Friendly Bay Day  Fun for all the family - all day at Friendly Bay.

9.00am Penny Farthing Tour depart from Christchurch  International visitors converge to take part in the history making annual Penny Farthing Tour, finishes down town Oamaru. 
12.00 noon North Otago Y.F.C. - Country Down Town Day  Join the crazy country events down town - Thames St. 

Check out the prettiest sheep competition. 

7.00pm Even Crazier Country Capers  The Last Post for a great night out. Dog barking competitions and much more - don't forget your dog!

12.00 noon Chinese Market Day and Calligraphy Demonstration  opposite the Council Building on Thames Street. Purchase direct from the people who have made the Waitaki District famous for fresh produce in New Zealand 
12.00 - 1.30pm Organ Recitals - St Paul's Church  Organ recital's especially for the Heritage Celebrations 
3.00pm Dame Catherine Tizard - afternoon luncheon at Rendell on Reed  Rendell on Reed, luncheon host to Dame Catherine Tizard, all welcome. 
Approximately 4.00pm Penny Farthing Tour Arrives in Oamaru  They have just finished cycling all the way from Mount Cook - lots of noisy support wanted for the arrival from the North end. 
7.00pm Heritage Sports Hero's - The Last Post - second half  No time for the orange's here's the second half of the hilarious Heritage Sports Hero's evening.

11.00am Pukaki to Oamaru Cavalcade arrives  All the way from Pukaki, especially for the Celebrations - Incredible, over 50 riders and wagons. Thames Street, beginning from the intersection of Thames and Itchen Streets 
All day Open Day - Early Settlers Hall  Discover how our predecessors lived and made this into the land we know today. 
All day Historic Coastal Defense Complex Tours  Catch a ride in genuine restored army vehicles from the wharf after touring the HMNZS Moa view - view the old gun emplacements and military memorabilia. 
8.00pm Oamaru Repertory Theatre Performance Opening Night -  The Oamaru Repertory Theatre Group in Itchen St. Traditional, hilarious reporatory theatre - great for all the family.

11.00am Janet Frame Heritage Trail - Guided Tours  Visit the real life sites from Janet Frame's writing - 1.5 hr tour.
