Minnovate Mining Technical Services:
Software Development

Background

I have been involved with software development in various forms since the mid 1980's, and am able to write custom Windows software to meet specialised needs in mine design and planning that may add significant value to your mining operation. In recent times software I have written has included graphical packages for specialised mine scheduling, topsoil management, product reserve definition and range diagram generation, and I am currently developing tools for several other purposes. I do however only develop software specifically for Microsoft Windows; if you are working in a wholly Unix environment I regret I cannot help you !

A question that may be asked is "why create custom software when so many good generalised mining software packages are commercially available ?". My answer is that I see three principal reasons :-
  1.  Generalised mining software producers must primarily cater to the common needs of 'typical' mining operations to gain an adequate share of the market. The specialised needs of relatively unusual mining operations offer limited returns for commercial software developers and hence may be neglected.
  2.  I believe there remains potential for developing new, value adding applications for computers in certain aspects of 'typical' mine design and planning - and by this I do not mean naive 'pie-in-the-sky' concepts, but practical applications of simple technology.
  3.  Because, with modern tools, developing custom software is no longer difficult. The latest generation of Windows programming languages allows efficient, user friendly, graphically interfaced applications to be developed with unprecedented ease, speed and consequently low cost. Development is also simplified if the aplication can be to some extent site specific, rather than entirely generalised.
