DETAILS OF THE TEN FRENCH LANGUAGE TUITION PROGRAMS ON THE FRENCH SUPPLEMENT DISC ...

FRS-1) FRENCH MILLION. For secondary school students and others in their first or second year of the language, this highly user-friendly program makes an ideal tutor and study companion. Operating with a choice of ten different levels of difficulty to suit the student's current state of knowledge, the program can create over one million different model sentences of French with or without translation, as the user prefers. The sentences are built up from a relatively small vocabulary, appropriate for first or second year students. When the student runs the program in non-translation mode to test progress, FRENCH MILLION constantly offers to translate any sentence which is not fully understood and monitors the student's progress in this respect over each run of ten sentences. The program then makes various recommendations. In short, it is almost as good as having a real live French tutor living in your home!

FRS-2) FRENTRAN. This program generates at random simple sentences in English for translation INTO French (from a range of about 9000 possible different sentences). Every time the student keys in a French sentence which is identical with the model translation generated by the computer, it plays a few notes from the Marseillaise in acknowledgment. When the student's French differs from that of the computer, the computer's translation appears on screen for the student to make comparisons. Most students (young and old!) learn fast this way!

FRS-3) FRENCAL. Learning the days, months and seasons in French becomes an easy matter with this practical drill program, which some children enjoy just as much as if it were a game!

FRS-4) FVOCAB. A French vocabulary training program which checks the student's progress letter by letter and gives instant feedback, FVOCAB comes supplied with three standard vocabulary files which contain almost all the words used in FRENCH MILLION, most of which are required learning for eventual School Certificate candidates. FVOCAB also enables the user to file new lists of French words and their English equivalents to disc, ready for FURTHER vocabulary drill on the program at any convenient time!

FRS-5) FR-ADD. For those who seek practice in both French and mental arithmetic, this program provides the opportunity for both at the same time. FR-ADD invents simple addition sums at random, presents them on screen in French, and calls on the student to provide an answer in French - such as maybe VINGT. Makes learning fun!

FRS-6) FR-MINUS. This program invents minus sums entirely at random, gives them to the student in French and asks the student to answer in French. Any student who has mastered the program FR-COUNT on EDUCATOR-A, is ready for both this program and FR-ADD.

FRS-7) FCONJUG1. Verbs are the backbone of the French language, and verbs of the first conjugation are ubiquitous. FCONJUG1 drills students in the present tense of verbs of the first conjugation.
