Adoption
day
The children have the
day off school and wear their best clothes. I feel calm and happy, without
misgivings, just as I felt on my wedding day.
We are called into
court exactly on time. Lily
brings up some milk and I have to mop her up, someone fetches extra
chairs, we take an oath on a Bible and then suddenly it’s over and the
judge congratulates us and says Lily is now legally our daughter.
We go to have a family
portrait taken. Lily looks
very sweet wearing a dress her birth mother gave her, today of all days
she does not need to wear my clothes to prove herself mine.
The children each have
a new toy and we eat lunch out. On
the way home they fight in the back of the car. Oh yes, we are really a
family now!
