This represents the kyn node of the Polis group. The POLIS consists of a group of artists and writers concerned with, amongst other things, the creation, exploration, and utilization of virtual spaces or 'Virtual Autonomous Zones' (VAZ) -- (analogous to the 'Temporary Autonomous Zones' of Hakim Bey): folds in the geography of reality. The concept of Gebrauchsrealität (utility-reality) closely ties in with these spaces and the objects created to populate them. The created virtual objects should serve some (subjectively) useful purpose and open up new posibilities of action and manipulation that can have real consequences and feedback in our reference reality ('meatspace').

The links to images, text, and VRML representations from this page deal primarily with a long maintained desert space which I have worked on for some time as part of POLIS. The various objects and experiments linked from these pages add detail and explore this space, or at least they intend to. I designed the desert as a relatively sparse open space, in which one can temporarily bring and contemplate objects against a very large scale backdrop without too much environmental distraction.
