Well, I got what everyone really wants for Christmas: laid off. So, while I have been busy chasing after work that doesn't seem to be around, I've also had a bit of time for some writing. For those who've been asking about it, I have done some more work on Borderlines, but that's not yet ready to be posted. It should be ready in the next update. Meanwhile, there's another chapter in Lies in Red Leaves over in the story section.

Finally got the update to Lies in Red Leaves done and posted.
Got a good excuse as to why it's a bit late. Suffered from a
bout of Skyrim. Only way to get over it is to work it out of
your system. Ahem.
Nice game. Very pretty, with some spectacular
scenery and vistas that actually make you stop and look. The
dungeons are a damn site better than in Oblivion - although
the Morrowind ones were pretty well done (I still remember the
buried longship) - however, they all seem to have used the same
designer who gave every dungeon a handy shortcut back to the
entrance. Also, ancient tombs from before the Empire have Imperial
weapons and armor? And the Nords are an incredibly disciplined
people - you'll only ever find food in barrels.
Also, I'm not really liking how the games are
being over-simplified. Morrowind let you wear something like
10 pieces of clothing as well as jewlery, with a huge range
of enchantments on them (I miss my ring of jump that would launch
me halfway across the island, and my other ring of healing that'd
repair my ankles upon landing). Oblivion reduced that number.
Skyrim cut it again to 4 pieces of armour and and some jewlery
along with a considerable cut to the spell list. Then there's
the user interface and inventory that's suffering from consolitis...
But it's still a fun RPG and has plenty of touches
that show care was lavished on the appearance even if the working
mechanisms underneath suffered a bit.

Another update to Lies in Red Leaves over on the stories page.
Funny how bits you think would be simple can take so long to
iron out. Still not happy with some aspects of the new chapter,
but those are issues I'll have to revist later.

For those of you who've written asking if I'm okay following
the Christchurch earthquake: I'm fine. I wish the same could
be said for the people living in that city. They've taken a
real pounding and are struggling to put things back together
again. As a country we've got a population of about 5 million
people - about the population of a medium-sized city in some
places - so a distaster like this really effects everyone. And
as usual in these disasters it's the emergency services who
really shine, both local and those countries who rushed aid
over here. They've got brutally dangerous, dirty and physically
and mentally exhausting work that they have to do until the
job's done. Whatever they're paid, it's not enough.
In a slightly more cheerful note, there's an update
to Lies in Red Leaves over on the story page. One of the reasons
it took so long was I essentially rewrote it several times.
Still something not quite right. Hopefully I'll figure out just
what's bugging me on a re-read.

Damn, four months since the last update already. I have been
a bit slack on this update. There've been some cash-flow problems
and then some dental issues. Wisdom teeth - there's some evidence
against intelligent design right there. And after they were
dealt to a set of bloody holes in the head aren't really very
conducive to creative writing. Anyway, fingers crossed that's
done and dusted and there's now an update to Lies in Red Leaves
over on the stories page.
People have been asking about an update to Borderlines.
I want to write it, I really do. But I keep finding I keep coming
back to Lies. I figure out another section or piece of dialogue
and just have to get it in before it's gone. I'm going to have
to get back to Borderlines at some point, before I forget where
I was going with the various threads.

It's been a few months, but there's another update
to Lies in Red Leaves through in the stories section. Now that
the introductions are out of the way, things should be picking
up a bit.
