Broken
Arm: March 27th 1999.
A new children's indoor playground opened at Manukau City (close
to home!) It is called Chipmunks. I took Georgie, Joyce Erena
and Makene there on Saturday, the weekend before Easter, just
to try it out. They really had fun. At Chipmunks, they have
a large, bouncy castle in the form of a slide. It is really
big and goes all the way to the ceiling. Makene was the only
baby brave enough to get on it, but he had to do what his brother
and sister did. The first nine times he went down were fine.
He thought he was cool and he was having the time of his life.
The tenth time he came down, I saw his body twist half way down,
his arm slipped underneath his body and he landed with his full
body weight on his arm.

| He
screamed in agony and there seemed to be no consoling him. I
was given an ice-pack and I put that on his arm for about 15
minutes. He seemed okay after a while. He wasn't using his arm
much, but he was moving freely and I couldn't feel any obvious
injury. Sunday he was okay and I could only get to see the doctor
Monday afternoon. An X-ray showed cracks in both bones in the
lower arm. The cracks weren't right through. He had to keep
the cast on until April 19th. I must admit he looked awfully
cute with his cast on. He was also very resilient and took everything
in his stride. |
