This was Chug's first ever release before they signed to Flying Nun Records. It was recorded and sold by themselves. The tracklisting is unknowen at the moment as is the format it was released on, however, it most likely would have been cassette. It has long been deleted.

Chug's first full-length album was released on cassette, compact disc and vinyl through Flying Nun Records. It was later reissued on compact disc through Alias Records in 1996 for American distribution.

The only single from Sassafras was released on compact disc and 7" vinyl. The 7" version, however, did not include Cosmos. Also a New Zealand only release.
