INDOOR ACCOMMODATION AND OUTDOOR CAMPING

LOCATION
Schlaepfer Park is Located approx 50km from the center of Auckland City and 160km from the center of Hamilton.
The Park consists of 10 acres of native bush and grassed areas which is surrounded ( to the East and West) by areas of land covered with mature native bush, and (to the north and South) with farming and agricultural land.
There is a small stream and waterfall complete with glow-worms (not generally affected by noise or lights).
Bush trails are provided in some areas.
Some of the property was once part of an Ostrich Farm during the early 1900s and later during World War 2 was part of a large Army Camp.

The property is located approx 600 metres from Ostrich Farm Road and is accessed via a gravel driveway. A speed restriction of 30kph is applied to this driveway. The driveway entrance is located approx 500 metres along Ostrich Farm Road from the intersection at Heights Road.

ACCOMMODATION
SCOUT HUT 14 persons  ROTARY HUT 14 persons
Both buildings consist of 2 bunk rooms fitted with 7 bunks on 2 levels. A space is left for baggage etc or can be used as an additional bed space using a stretcher (not supplied). The bunks are fitted with comfortable foam rubber mattresses. The huts are fully lined and insulated. Please Note: Pillows and bedding are not supplied.

KITCHEN / DINING ROOM
BROWNE HUT 4 persons  (BROWN HUT)
Consists of an open plan kitchen and dinning room.
KITCHEN (Browne Hut)
The kitchen are consist of stainless steel and formica benches, 3 stainless steel sinks, stove, refrigerator/freezer, 2 zips and formica table. Ample under bench storage space. Small toaster , electric jugs, small teapot and vacuum cleaner are supplied. Please Note: Users will need to provide all other kitchen / cooking equipment.
DINNING ROOM (Browne Hut)
The dinning room area, although not large , can easily accommodate 32 campers seated at the 4 tables and 8 stools provided.
BUNK ROOM (Browne Hut)
Is an area partitioned off from the dinning room and is fitted with 4 bunks

CAMPING
The property has many areas suitable for camping, with good shelter. Some sites require more ground improvements but are useable by smaller groups. All sites are Back-to-Basics camping with water piped to most sites but without permanent toilets. Campers not wishing to use the main toilet block may construct basic toilets (long drop) but must provide and use toilet tents.
Open fires are permitted depending on the fire restrictions which the local Council may impose, from time to time, due to extreme dry conditions. Firewood is not supplied and users should bring their own supply for cooking fires and for any planned Campfire. Check with the caretakers for suitable sites for cooking and Camp fires.

CONSERVATION
The Outdoor Code as found in 'Scout Outdoor Camping' ( Little Scout Handbook No22) applies. To protect the native bush, strict rules are enforced as to the use of knives, axes and saws.

SHOPPING
A wide variety of shops can be found in Pukekohe, which is just over 5 minutes away from the Park by car. Shops open 9am -12pm Sat morning - Supermarkets & The Warehouse are open during most of the weekends.
