Nutrition for Beginners

Food is fuel!

There is nothing magical about dieting to gain, lose, or redistribute weight, it is just a simple set of rules that apply slightly differently to each person. We must work out the best balance for our body, activity level, and training goals.

· If you are consuming more calories than you are burning you will gain weight.

· If you are consuming fewer calories than you are burning you will lose weight.

· What the weight loss or gain is made up of depends on what you eat, the supplements you take, and the type of exercise you undertake.

Energy intake is determined by such things as; the amount we eat, the quality of the food / supplement, the carbs / protein / fat we consume.

Energy expenditure is slightly more complex, it is determined by such things as; the amount of exercise we do, the intensity of the exercise, our body weight, the supplements we take, our metabolic rate.

Take Home Message:

If you are trying to gain weight ensure that your bodies fuel tank is never empty. If you are trying to lose weight make sure the fuel tank is empty by the time you go to bed.
